A new BOX for the beast

Well.
I couldn't do it.
the cage.
just too complicated.
So I designed a new one.
Simpler.
Had it cut out on a laser by the super demo guys in our show room.

Nice blue sparcs when it goes in plasma mode
or something....

The tube holders in 3mm thick stainless steel
Only 2 holes wrong.

Sven thought it might look cool in white.
Like a kind of inverted fridge.
And it does look pretty clean

On again.
In the new box.

The front is going to be in solid mahagony (sorry V.)

and the top in thick frosted glass!
more soon...

HUGE CAGE FOR A HUGE TRIODE

Started the box.
or not box really.
I's cage.
in aluminium plates
just stacked

each time you add a layer.
with the electronics in between.

Took a lot of 3D thinking and fiddling with my cad program.

Also found out that the foot/holder is no good.
at all.
took me about 20 hours to make it..
back to the drawing board for that.
anyway.
The cage for this beast, this huge triode.
Obviously became huge too.
Only 1 hole missing
1 of 277 holes...
not too bad

2001 A TUBE ODDITY

I like it.

In anodised aluminium...

The socket and all the electronics

Finally got the socket done.
It weighs about half a kilo.
That's one pound for you guys at the other side.
Including the copper contacts.
Machined out of a solid copper bar.

Just to imagine the size, I put my mobile next to it.
It is NOT a toy or scaled version.
No.

And the electronics come down to this.
Almost nothing.
11 components per side.
That's it.

The ultimo penultimo diagram

The cathode follower.
Now, that was easy....
As promised; THE DIAGRAM......
only 10 components left...
Does it get better than this?

Well, things are never as they seam

Got the interstage!
It sounds funny...
Measured with the scope...
Not so nice.
It has a nasty dip in it.
Tried about everything.
And then some more.
Back to the drawing board.
Asked Wim for help.
Brilliant idea!!
The Cathode follower.
No interstage, no couple capacitor.
Back to DC.
Ok, the power is down a bit.
Only about 20W left.
Still more then enough!!
